Jim co-founded Resourceful Internet Solutions (RIS) and Mediate.com in 1996. Before this, Jim founded The Mediation Center in Eugene, Oregon in 1983 and served as Executive Director of the national Academy of Family Mediators from 1987 to 1993. Jim is past-Chair of the Oregon Dispute Resolution Commission and is a member of the Oregon State Bar. Jim teaches Mediation at Pepperdine University School of Law's Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. Jim was the first President and Executive Director of the Oregon Mediation Association (1985) and received the OMA's 2003 Award for Excellence. Jim Received the Oregon State Bar Dispute Resolution Section's 2006 Sidney Lezak Award of Excellence and the 2007 John Haynes Distinguished Mediator Award from the Association for Conflict Resolution. Jim's undergraduate degree is in in psychology, with honors, from Stanford University and his law degree is from the University of Oregon.
John has more than 25 years experience in hi-tech, financial services, and engineering. He has held a variety of executive positions, including several CEO assignments, in both startups and Fortune 50 companies. He has: started companies from scratch; participated in more than $11B in mergers/acquisitions; worked through two IPOs and; managed budgets in excess of $100M. He has a broad understanding of all facets of business management, in particular, financial management, business development and marketing, product development, systems, and operations. John has an extensive track record gained from working at both strategic and hands-on management.
Carol has directed technical development for corporations, non-profits and university programs since 1983, focusing exclusively on the Internet since 1996. She has held the top technical position at Resourceful Internet Solutions, Inc., since 1997. Ms. Knapp has designed and supervised development of RIS' Dynamic Web Site System, Caseload Manager and Meeting Space. Prior to RIS, Ms. Knapp served as Technical Director for Crown Research, Inc., a retirement industry firm offering integrated software solutions for residential care, marketing and facility management.
Byron has been working with RIS since 1998. Maintaining a robust, fast, reliable and secure infrastructure is his duty. In 2011, Byron converted the RIS "legacy" server farm to the Amazon (AWS) Cloud. Byron serves as a technical resource for RIS’ support and programming staff. His breadth of experience is wide, including a degree in Engineering Technology. Initially Byron wrote accounting software for industrial applications and later operated Computer Application Support (a retail support center) before joining RIS.
Josh has been a "computerphile" since the Commodore 64. After graduating from Evergreen State College, Josh developed his skills as a graphic artist and gained experience in HTML. Josh has been with RIS since 2000. He likes fly fishing and occasianally catches fish. Josh gains most satisfaction from his work when he can apply his skills against a technical challenge and develop more efficient systems.
Dr. Clare Fowler, Caseload Manager Director
Clare received her Doctorate on designing dispute resolution systems for small businesses and her Master's of Dispute Resolution both from the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution at the Pepperdine University School of Law. Clare serves as Managing Editor at Mediate.com and as Director of Caseload Manager
Angela has over 20 years’ experience keeping customers satisfied. She began working for Polaroid in 1995, maintaining their software and hardware systems. Angela gained valuable experience in finance with a mortgage company in Salem, Oregon. Before coming to RIS in 2000, Angela was also Trade Show Coordinator for a large industrial company. Angela is exceptionally organized and very detail oriented.
